Choose A Machine Needle Based On Fabric (Video)

Don’t forget! You must change your sewing machine needle! Not only do you need to change a sewing machine needle before it gets dull, you should also be changing your needle with each new project based on the fabric you’re sewing.

Fun fact: My baby was just a few months old when I was filming this video at the Original Sewing & Quilt Expo in Fredericksburg. I laid her down on a fabric cutting table just to the left of the camera so she was close to me but not on-screen since I was the only person in the exhibit hall at the time because the show wasn’t yet open. (Thank goodness for babies that don’t wiggle and squirm!) As you can guess, this video had to be filmed a few times because she kept making cute baby noises. 🙂

Hey everyone,

I’m behind the scenes right now at the Original Sewing & Quilt Expo in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

The show is closed right now, but opening up tomorrow. I’m just in for a sneak peek, and I wanted to give you a quick tip about your sewing machine needles.

Instead of using the same needle over and over again, project after project, make sure you’re choosing a needle that corresponds with your fabric; it’ll give you the best results. Right here, for example, I’ve got stretch needles, jersey, metallic, and leather. So whatever fabric I’m sewing, I’m going to choose the appropriate needle.
