Tracy Moore:
You’ve got places to go.

Denise Wild:
People to see.

Tracy:
You don’t necessarily want to go. And get a bottle of wine every single time.

Denise:
I agree. Please, no wine.

Tracy:
Right. Do something a little bit different.

Denise:
No wine. I don’t drink.

Tracy:
And have some fun. Yeah, and not everyone drinks. Not everybody wants the wine.

Denise:
Right.

Tracy:
Um, you can send it to my house, but let’s talk about different projects that you can do.

Denise:
Exactly. These are easy, inexpensive projects; hostess gifts you can make and they don’t cost a lot of money. They’re very easy to do and then it’s so much more creative when you show up.

Tracy:
They’re heartfelt.

Denise:
Yes. Exactly.

Tracy:
Right?

Denise:
You show up at somebody’s house and it’s something that’s unexpected.

Tracy:
Lovely.

Denise:
And it brings in the holidays.

Tracy:
Okay, so starting with this beautiful noel sign?

Denise:
So I’m starting with the noel and this is so easy to do. You can purchase the letters and then you just decorate them. So I’ve done glitter with Mod Podge and put it on. Because I didn’t want to glitter every single letter–

Tracy:
Right.

Denise:
–might be, you know; some people aren’t up for glitter all of the time–

Tracy:
Yep.

Denise:
I did use the washi tapes too, to add some interest there. But you could also do this by wrapping it with fabric, doing it with a decorative scrapbook paper–

Tracy:
Uh huh.

Denise:
–or even faux fur.

Tracy:
Oh! That sounds good.

Denise:
Wouldn’t that look nice over the mantel?

Tracy:
Very nice!

Denise:
Yes.

Tracy:
Okay, I love that idea.

Denise:
Yeah.

Tracy:
And now this one that you showed us off the top.

Denise:
I love this one. So, this is another, you know – a great hostess gift that you can bring, make– bring to somebody’s house, and you have all these letters here and you can just glue them onto a frame, add a nice little backing–

Tracy:
Nice.

Denise:
–and I thought maybe it might be fun to have you play around?

Tracy:
Oh, nice. Okay.

Denise:
Yeah.

Tracy:
Well, I can think of a simple one right now.

Denise:
Oh! There we go!

Tracy:
Right?

Denise:
Perfect.

Tracy:
So you can make joy. And they’re just Scrabble letters.

Denise:
They’re Scrabble letters–

Tracy:
I don’t know if you’re going to be able to see that?

Denise:
Yes.

Tracy:
Let me try and pick it up.

Denise:
Love that.

Tracy:
So you can make a cute little– oh, you can’t see it at all. You can make a cute little– I promise, there’s a Y under there. There you go! A cute little sign.

Denise:
So–

Tracy:

This is very inexpensive.

Denise:
Inexpensive.

Tracy:
Yes.

Denise:
All these supplies I got at Walmart. Each one of these gifts is under twenty dollars. Easy to make.

Tracy:
Yeah.

Denise:
You can make it in under an hour. And, you know; get your little Scrabble board, make up your little letters, and take something creative.

Tracy:
Very cute.

Denise:
So, another thing that you can do with a frame. A shadowbox frame.

Tracy:
Yes.

Denise:
And you can either use a laser cut stencil on here or you can hand write with chalk. Do a little festive message. Add in some trinkets. You know, pick your backing that goes in there too.

Tracy:
Oh, how nice.

Denise:
I’ll try to lift this up while you’re lifting that up.

Tracy:
Yeah.

Denise:
But, again, you know you can get creative with the backing. Whatever you want to write on there–

Tracy:
Mmm hmm.

Denise:
–and, you know, draw a little picture. Maybe your kids can help out and draw something too?

Tracy:
That’s really lovely.

Denise:
Right.

Tracy:
I like the shadowbox, because I like the little trinkets there at the bottom.

Denise:
And then that’s something–

Tracy:
Really cute.

Denise:
–that people can pull out at any time. So this one I want to get you hands-on with.

Tracy:
Okay.

Denise:
These are beautiful little ornaments. So these are, you know, again, something that’s–

Tracy:
Oh.

Denise:
–unexpected. You’re going to bring this in a nice little package and bring it to your hostess and say, “Thank you for having me.” And it’s very easy to do. So just take your regular Mason jars.

Tracy:
Okay.

Denise:
We’ll open that up. You have the lid. I’ve precut these pieces so you can either use the black or, you know, red, green, any color. We’ll pop that in here instead– oh, wait. You’re doing it wrong. You have to wait for the instructions.

Tracy:
Oh, dear! Oh, boy!

Denise:
Okay, so–

Tracy:
Oh, wow! Okay.

Denise:
So pop that into the lid.

Tracy:
Okay.

Denise:
This is why I’m here, Tracy.

Tracy:
Sorry! Oh, so pop– yeah, I get it. Yes.

Denise:
Okay, put that back and then pop in the back. Exactly!

Tracy:
Right.

Denise:
So you put your paper first, then you put your backing, then we kind of glue this all in.

Tracy:
Can I do this now?

Denise:
You can, but it’s– I mean–

Tracy:
Oh, that’s still wrong?

Denise:
Yeah. So, get all that glue right in there.

Tracy:
Oh dear.

Denise:
And it’s just holding it in place.

Tracy:
Okay.

Denise:
That’s okay. I’ll give this one to you.

Tracy:
I did mine a little differently than yours.

Denise:
Oh, you know what? I forgot the string too. Oops! Do the string first–

Tracy:
Okay.

Denise:
–you were distracting me. Loop the string first.

Tracy:
She’s more like having a heart attack watching me do everything wrong. I’m like, “I don’t even know where I am anymore!”

Denise:
We’ll do a little snowflake on there.

Tracy:
Okay.

Denise:
Plus a little Santa and there you go. Look, happy Santa.

Tracy:
I love that. You know what I say all of the time? I say, “Go to the website.”

Denise:
Yeah. All the instructions are on there.

Tracy:
Do you know why I say that all of the time? Because, sometimes what I do on the show is not right. So, you need to go to cityline.ca. We usually have all the instructions for our DIY projects; we have recipes there – look at that cute little star.

Denise:
Lovely.

Tracy:
Um, so you’re not just free-styling it like the host of the show likes to do all of the time. Okay, these are great gifts. I like the whole theme. We’re taking it back. We’re doing DIY. We’re making things–

Denise:
DIY–

Tracy:
–they’re coming from the heart.

Denise:
–inexpensive.

Tracy:
Yes.

Denise:
Everything’s from Walmart. You don’t have to go far to find good, quality stuff–

Tracy:
Look at that.

Denise:
–and you don’t have to spend a lot. These are all under twenty dollars. I can do them in thirty minutes; even less. I love that.

Tracy:
Yeah, you can do them in the time of a segment. Let’s go to break. We’ve got more coming up.
